Glossy or matte: two small words that change how your stickers look and feel. The choice might seem simple, but it affects how your design comes across and how your stickers hold up out in the wild.
Good news first: glossy and matte have a lot more in common than you'd think, so your choice is mostly about the look you're after.
TL;DR: Glossy and matte stickers are equally tough: both are water-resistant, weather-resistant and scratch-proof. The real differences are the look and the sun, since glossy laminate is UV-protected and matte isn't.
Glossy = shiny and colourful. Best for bright designs and stickers that will spend a lot of time in the sun.
Matte = smooth and low-shine. Best for soft or minimalist designs, stickers that get handled a lot, and anywhere glare gets in the way.
Whichever laminate you choose, glossy and matte stickers are built the same way. Both are:
Printed on the same base materials, like vinyl, holographic and mirror
Printed in full colour
Water-resistant, weather-resistant, scratch-proof, and dishwasher-proof
Available as die-cut and kiss-cut stickers, sticker sheets, hang tags, and sticker packs
So the difference is all about look, feel, and the vibe you want.
Glossy laminate gives your stickers a shiny, reflective surface. Colours look brighter and contrast gets stronger, so bold artwork comes out crisp and polished.
Glossy laminate is also UV-protected. If your stickers are going to live in direct sunlight, on a car, a bike or a sign outside, glossy is the one to pick.
Choose glossy laminate if you:
Have a bright, colourful design you want to show off
Need your stickers to look good outside, in the sun
Like a shiny, high-energy look that catches the light
Perfect for: logo stickers, merch drops, event giveaways, and packaging that should shine (literally).

Matte laminate has a non-reflective finish and a soft, smooth surface. Colours look a little more muted, and the whole sticker gets a calm, modern feel.
Since matte doesn't reflect light, there's no glare: your design is easy to see from any angle and easy to photograph. Fingerprints and smudges also show less than on glossy.
One thing to keep in mind: matte laminate is not UV-protected, so matte stickers fade faster in direct sunlight. For long-lasting results outdoors, go glossy.
Choose matte laminate if you:
Want softer, less punchy colours
Like a smooth surface with no shine
Want a premium, understated look
Perfect for: product labels, boutique branding, and stickers for soft or minimalist designs. Want to know more? Read what makes matte stickers so popular.

Glossy and matte protect your stickers equally well against water and scratches. Where they differ is the look, the glare, and the sun.
Look: glossy is shiny with bright, punchy colours. Matte has a low shine and softer colours.
Glare: glossy reflects light. Matte doesn't, which makes it easier to read and photograph.
Fingerprints: they show more on glossy and less on matte.
Sun: glossy laminate is UV-protected. Matte isn't, so it fades faster in direct sunlight.
Outdoors: vinyl stickers with glossy laminate last up to 2 to 4 years outside.
Materials: matte is available on vinyl, holographic, transparent and mirror. Prismatic and glitter come with glossy laminate only.
When in doubt, think about how you want people to experience your sticker:
Want to dazzle? Go glossy.
Want to impress quietly? Go matte.
And if the sticker will spend its life outside in the sun, glossy is the safer choice.
