Labels

What is a label?

A label is a functional adhesive graphic where the information is the product. It's defined by what it communicates, while a sticker is defined by its design and a decal by the surface it's made for.

Labels identify, instruct, organise or support the product they're attached to, for example on packaging, in logistics or as product information.

Label anatomy

Most labels are built from five layers, from top to bottom:

  • Finish: The protective layer over the print. Depending on the label material, it's a laminate, a varnish or no coating at all (uncoated).

  • Design: Your artwork and information, such as product names, ingredients, barcodes, instructions or regulatory information.

  • Material: The base material that carries the design, for example PP, PET or Kraft Paper.

  • Adhesive: The pressure-sensitive layer that sticks the label to the surface. Our labels use a permanent adhesive.

  • Backing liner: The protective layer over the adhesive, removed when you apply the label. Labels come on a roll or on a sheet.

Labels vs Stickers vs Decals

Stickers, labels and decals are all adhesive graphics. What sets them apart is what defines the product.
