Can I write on an uncoated label?

Yes. Uncoated labels have a natural paper surface that you can write on with pens, markers and stamps, which makes them a good choice when information is added after printing.

When to choose uncoated labels

Laminated labels have a protective layer on top. Uncoated labels don't, so ink soaks into the natural paper surface. That makes them easy to write on by hand, for example on Kraft Paper labels.

Common uses

  • Batch numbers

  • Expiry dates

  • Product codes

  • Signatures

  • Handwritten notes

Keep in mind

Without a protective layer, uncoated labels are more sensitive to moisture, oils and frequent handling. If your labels need to handle water, spills or heavy use, choose a glossy or matte laminate instead, see varnish vs laminate.
